The first step needed to take is to remove material around the bump stop
dampener on the bump stop plate so that it will fit through the chassis
when inverted and installed. Next you must fit the threaded spring perch
over the strut. On Koni struts it will be necessary to remove the lip of
the strut so that the sleeve will slip over.
You
want the sleeve to have a nice contoured fit to the original spring perch,
which is welded to the strut. Once this is done place the sleeve over the
strut, and install the spring perch onto the sleeve. Next, install the coil
over spring, OEM bump stop (with dust boot removed) upper spring locator,
inverted bump stop plate, strut washer, and strut shaft nut. Once these are
assembled in this sequence, the strut shaft nut will be fastened onto the
strut shaft with an impact wrench. This completes the strut assembly and
lowering modification. This procedure is necessary to net the same amount
of suspension travel as the OEM components, while being altered for the
lowered vehicle. |
