Custom Speaker Console.
At West Coast Fiero, we
attempted to get some decent bass into the limited compartment area of
the Fiero. We considered an Audio installation behind the seats,
but the sacrifice in leg room just was not worth it. Bazooka tubes
presented basically the same problem. Locating them in front of
the seat (behind the legs) was an even greater hassle.
Ultimately, we decided that giving up the center glove box was the
optimum answer. With the deterioration of the center console, this
proved to be the best answer.
We designed our box around the JBL 10" speaker, which has one of the
smallest volume requirements for this quality speaker. The result
is exceptional bass response with a moderate sized amplifier behind the
passenger seat. (The amplifier we used is a Fosgate 150W unit).
This unit is close in size to the factory center console. As seen
in the photo above, the center console is slightly deeper than the
factory console. This is to get the necessary volume for the
speaker.
There is a cutout to allow access to power window switches. The
Ash tray cutouts have been removed.
The entire console is foam padded and covered in a gray or tan vinyl to
nearly match the interior.

Good afternoon -
Attached are some photographs of the subwoofer console your shop
constructed
for me installed in my car. You did a very excellent job with it,
especially with integrating the existing shift plate. It took me awhile
to
install as I was only able to do a little here and a little there over a
period of about four weekends, but other than that it was
straightforward
and required no modifications at all - the console is aligned perfectly,
fits snugly, and matches the black door panels very well. Aside from the
great looks and sound, I also like the extra height the console has - it
makes a much better armrest now, whereas before I could only rest my
elbow
on it.
I had also ordered one of the cd pouches that sit on the driver's side
of
the center console, but didn't get one...do you still make those? If so,
I'd like to order one. Let me know if you need my payment and address
details.
